Help us investigate how playing cybersecurity games affects cybersecurity learning

Welcome to play the (Un)usual Monday morning CTF!

The (Un)usual Monday morning is a beginner level CTF. You will investigate what happened during the weekend and prepare for the thesis consultation. As the situation is what it is, the task is not that straightforward..

The (un)usual Monday morning is available for everyone to play regardless of have you been studying cybersecurity or not. If you are a student in Kyberturvallisuus I (Finnish) course, you can earn one theme point by playing the CTF and another one if you also participate in CTF-surveys. Cyber Security I (English) course also offers point for participating and taking the surveys.

We also invite you to participate in the cybersecurity education effectiveness research. We are studying what kind effects CTF games have on learning cybersecurity. Read more about the research here. However, participation in the research is voluntary and you can just come to play the CTF if you wish.

Participating

  1. Enroll to the CTF game session. Games take place in Cyberlab, TC205, Tietotalo, Hervanta Campus.
  2. Fill the Pre-CTF-survey before coming to Cyberlab play session.
  3. Come to the Cyberlab and play the game. Cyberlab time slot is three hours. This covers the CTF (max playtime is two hours) and the first post-survey.
  4. After completing the game, fill the Post-1-CTF-survey immediately. You can do this in Cyberlab right after the game.
  5. After two weeks, fill the Post-2-CTF-survey. The post-survey is filled in two parts, because we cannot measure behavioral changes immediately.

If you only want to play, take the steps 1 and 3.

Additional information

The Pre-CTF-survey takes about 30 minutes.

The Post-1-CTF-survey takes about 25 minutes. This survey also collects CTF feedback, i.e. how successful the game was for your learning and how satisfied you were with the game.

The Post-2-CTF-survey takes about 5 minutes. This survey measures has your security behaviour changed after playing the CTF.

If you didn't fill the Pre-CTF-survey, but would like to participate surveys after playing, you can do that by filling the Post-CTF-survey. In that case, we cannot compare the answers you give before the CTF with those after the CTF, but you still get to give CTF feedback and evaluate its effect on, for example, your interest in cybersecurity.
