RESEARCH AREAS
My research sits at the intersection of education, work, and professional development. Over more than two decades I have published around 150 peer-reviewed works on how people learn and grow - from vocational education, workplace learning, and the development of professional excellence to higher and engineering education and, more recently, university teachers' emotions and well-being. A common thread runs through understanding learning as something shaped by motivation, emotion, and the conditions that surround it.
Methodologically I favour quantitative and person-centred approaches, including Bayesian modelling, and I combine survey data with experience-sampling and physiological measures to capture learning and teaching as they unfold in real time.
